The MXD1CAN is a daughter board for our MicroX range of boards. It has a MCP2551 CAN Bus driver and terminal block connector. It plugs into the daughter board connector of the SBC (Single Board Computer) Board. It has to be used with a PIC Microcontroller with built in CAN peripheral.
There are 3 jumpers on the J1 header for enabling CAN Bus Termination and Bias resistors. When the top jumper (marked TERM on board) is inserted, a 120 Ohm termination resistor is placed on the bus. Termination resistors are normally required on either end of a CAN Bus. The second two jumpers (marked BIAS on board) place 1 kOhm bias resistors on the two CAN Bus lines. Bias resistors are normally added to a CAN Bus to ensure it goes to the idle state when no devices are active on the bus.
The SBC68EC board is assembled with a PIC18F6680 chip, and can be used. When using the MXD1CAN with this board, solder jumpers J4 and J5 have to be in the D0 and D6 positions. This will connect the CAN Bus port pins on the PIC18F6680 to the MCP2551 driver chip. The following pictures show the required solder jumpers for top of board and bottom of board for using it with the SBC68EC.
The SBC28DC, SBC44B, and other MicroX SBC boards can be used when assembled with a PIC microcontroller with a CAN peripherals. For these boards solder jumpers J4 and J5 have to be in the B2 and B3 position to route the CAN Bus pins of the CPU to the MCP2551 driver chip. The PIC18F2680 and PIC18F458 are example PIC chips (with CAN peripheral) that can be used with the SBC28DC and SBC44B boards. The following pictures show the required solder jumpers for top of board and bottom of board for using it with the SBC28DC and SBC44B boards.
